Sex-hormone-binding globulin (SHBG), otherwise known as sex-steroid-binding globulin (SSBG), works by binding to androgens and estrogens in the body and inhibits their function.

The binding affinity for SHBG is as such:
Dihydrotestosterone (DHT) > Testosterone > Androstenediol >Estradiol (E2) > Estrone (E1).

This means DHT will be the first to bind to SHBG, with estrone being the last.
